RITA (ritacommunity.com) values your privacy. We handle and secure your personal data with great care and comply with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In this privacy statement, we explain which personal data we process, for what purpose, and in what manner.
responsible
The data controller for the personal data on this website is Stichting RITA Community. We determine which personal data is processed, for what purpose, and in what manner. We share discrimination reports with Discriminatie.nl Regio Amsterdam, the anti-discrimination agency (ADV) for the Amsterdam region. They handle the reports and process them into statistics. Reports from outside Amsterdam are forwarded by Discriminatie.nl Regio Amsterdam to the appropriate ADV. For more information, visit www.discriminatie.nl/regioamsterdam.
processing personal data
When you fill out the report form, we process the data you provide yourself:
Your report: what happened, what it was related to, when and where it occurred, and any attachments (photos or documents) you include.
Your postal code (the four digits only): required to register the report with the correct regional anti-discrimination agency.
Contact details (first name, last name, email address, phone number): only if you indicate that we may contact you. If you choose to report anonymously ('share my story only'), we do not ask for or process any contact details.
A report may contain special categories of personal data within the meaning of the GDPR (Article 9), such as data concerning race or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, health, political opinions, or sexual orientation. We process this data only because you share it with us in your report, and we use it exclusively for handling your report.
voluntary background questions
At the end of the form, we ask a few voluntary questions about who you are (age group, gender identity, sexual orientation). We use these answers only to help RITA better understand who is finding our reporting service. These answers are never shared with Discriminatie.nl or other parties and are not mandatory; you can skip them or select 'prefer not to say'.
discrimination complaint form
You can submit discrimination complaints using the reporting form on our website. RITA does not handle discrimination complaints itself. Your report is stored in our secure systems and made available to Discriminatie.nl Regio Amsterdam, which retrieves and processes the report. From that moment on, the privacy statement of the handling anti-discrimination agency also applies. If you would like to know which anti-discrimination agency is handling your complaint, please contact us. When reporting anonymously, you do not enter contact details, and these are not processed. We do ask for your postal code to register the complaint. After submitting, you will receive a reference number. If you have indicated that we may contact you, we will also send you a confirmation of receipt via email. This email contains only your reference number, never the content of your report.
processing of discrimination complaints
Your report and personal data are processed by an anti-discrimination agency. Article 1(a) of the Municipal Anti-Discrimination Agencies Act states that an anti-discrimination agency is tasked with providing citizens with independent assistance in resolving discrimination complaints. Section (b) identifies the registration of these complaints as a core task. This registration and data processing follow from this legal obligation. Anti-discrimination agencies process special personal data based on their legal mandate and thus perform a task of significant public interest.
For the handling of complaints, the reporter's postal code is required. Anonymous reporting remains possible. If you choose mediation, data may be exchanged with the relevant person or agency. If you do not wish for mediation, no data will be provided to third parties.
where your data is stored
Your report, any attachments, and contact details are stored on European infrastructure (Scaleway, data center in Paris, France). Our email service also runs there. No parties outside the European Union are involved in the processing of your report. The website itself (ritacommunity.com) is hosted by Webflow; the reporting form and your report data are not stored there.
Discriminatie.nl Regio Amsterdam retrieves reports via a secure connection. Only the data necessary for handling your report is shared; the voluntary background questions are never shared.
cookies and statistics
The reporting form does not use cookies or trackers. For web statistics, we use Simple Analytics, a privacy-friendly European service that does not place cookies or collect personal data; we cannot identify visitors using this tool. To prevent you from losing your story if you close the form prematurely, your browser temporarily saves a draft of your report on your own device. Contact details and background questions are never saved in this draft, and the draft is automatically deleted as soon as your report is sent.
links to other websites
We regularly link to websites of other organizations. We never use your personal data when doing so. If you use links on our website to visit other sites, such as Instagram, the rules of those parties regarding the handling of your personal information and privacy will apply. We recommend that you read their privacy policies carefully.
retention period
We do not store your personal data longer than necessary for the purpose of processing and in accordance with the GDPR. Your name and email address will be automatically removed from our systems 6 months after your report. We will retain the report itself after that, but without these contact details.
security
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorized access, and other unwanted actions involving personal data. All traffic to and from the reporting form is encrypted, access to reports is strictly limited and secured with keys, and our systems are continuously monitored.
access or change data
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You also have the right to restrict the processing of your data. You can submit a written and motivated request for this. Please include your reference number if you have one, so we can quickly locate your report. Send your request to: info@ritacommunity.com
